Baby Hat Size Chart – How to crochet a baby hat to fit

Ensuring your baby hat FITS, below is the size chart i use to crochet baby hats.

I have included some hat patterns where you can make several sizes.

You can make sizes from a preemie crochet hat pattern, newborn size croche thats , 0-3 months baby hats, and 3-6 months i also have some toddler sizes included in the hat patterns

Using the hat size chart below you will see the hat measurements for each size, you need these 3 sizes to croche ta baby hat that will fit

  • Head circumference,
  • Hat Height,
  • Crown Diameter
  • If having a larger baby, note the sizes and make changes where necessary. These are all approximate.
  • Before starting write out the measurements you require for the size.

A newborn Hat size example should measure

  • Newborn Crown Diameter = approx. 4 inches (this measurement is the circes diameter after the increacing rounds.
  • Neworn baby Hat Height = approx 5.5 – 6 inches (this is the measurement from TOP of hat to bottom)
  • Newborn Head Circumference = approx 13 – 15 inches

How to make these baby hat bigger?

Love a particular baby hat pattern and Want to make it BIGGER.

  • When making a baby hat bigger, keep increasing until you reach the crown diameter.
  • Then continue working evenly until you reach the hat height for the desired size.

What crochet hook size do I need to crochet a Baby Hat

I am an extremely loose crocheter! check measurements if you are a tight crocheter of sometimes just changing the size of the crochet hook can make the newborn hat slightly bigger.
I usually use double-knit yarn and a 4.00mm crochet hook or a 4.500mm crochet hook when crocheting a baby hat for a newborn, 0-3 months baby

What is the Best Yarn for Crocheting Baby Hats.
