Even though this is a free crochet baby beanie cap pattern that was originally for a Newborn I have included sizes to crochet a hat for a baby 0-3 months and 3-6 months.
So I set out to write out an easy-to-make baby hat Crochet Pattern, worked in a plain double crochet stitch in the first 3 sizes!
The TWIST to this little crochet hat pattern is that it is going to become a versatile pattern, to create little crochet hats throughout the seasons.
Is The baby hat crochet pattern beginner-friendly?
YES, This crochet baby hat is absolutely beginner-friendly as it is not started with a magic circle, you will chain 4 and work all the first round INTO the first chain you made.
The little hat is crocheted in one stitch, Double Crochet (DC)
You will work in Rounds, slipping into the chain at the start of Rounds.

Materials you will need to crochet the Christmas baby hats
Crochet Hook -newborn a 4.00mm hook , 0-3 months a 4.50 mm hook, and 3-6 months a 5.00mm hook
Yarn – a small amount of white and Brow in equal measures total of 25 grams of Double knit (8-ply yarn and weight is between sport and worsted weight yarn) – SEE BEST YARN deals HERE
Tapestry needle /Yarn needle for weaving in ends and securing the extra decorations to the top
NOTES:
You will be working the first st(s) INTO the BASE of the chain
The circumference is the measurement around the whole head
Crown diameter is the measurement across the circle at increases
The height of this hat is measured at the base of the ear.

Slip st to join to the chain at the start,
Baby hat size to fit: Newborn Use a 4.00mm hook
Crown diameter = 4.25+” Approx
circumference = 13.5โ Approx
Height of Hat= 5.5″ Approx
Baby hat size to fit: 0-3 months Use a 4.50mm hook
Crown diameter = 4.5″ Approx
Circumference = 14″ Approx
Height of Hat = 5.75″ Approx
Baby Hat size to fit: 3 โ 6 months use a 5mm hook
Crown Diameter = 5.25 ” approx
Hat Circumference = 16 โ approx
Height of Hat = 6 โapprox (15cm)
Christmas crochet baby hat pattern free
Ch4, sl st to 1st ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1.: Ch4 to start and work, and work 14dc into the FIRST chain from the hook, sl st to top of beg ch to join. (14 sts).
Rnd 2: Ch3, working into the BASE of the chain, 2 dc in each stitch around, sl st to top of beg ch to join (28 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch3, 1dc in the BASE of chain st, *2dc in next, dc in next* repeat from * to * around, sl st to top of beg ch to join (42sts)
Rnd 4: Ch2, 2dc in base of ch st, 1dc in next 2 sts, *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts*, repeat from * to * sl st to top of ch2 to join (56sts)
At the end of Rnd 4, Please CHECK your measurements. The diameter of your hat at Rnd 4 should measure:
Newborn: APPROX 4.25โ
0-3 months: APPROX 4.75โ
3-6 months: APPROX 5.25โ
Rnd 5 to Rnd 11: Ch2, working the first dc INTO the base of the chain, continue working 1 Dc in each stitch around.
Continue working in the Round until the HAT HEIGHT for your size has been reached.
Newborn: APPROX 5โ
0-3 months: APPROX 5.75โ
3-6 months: APPROX 6โ
CHRISTMAS baby Pudding Hat extras crochet instructions
If you would like to crochet the Spiral Curls for the hat
in Chosen color and the same hook you crocheted the baby hat in.
Chain 2
*Starting by working INTO the 2nd Chain from the hook, work 3 sc, in EVERY chain to end. slip stitch into the very last chain, * and then Chain 20 again, repeating the exact same.
Repeat for however many spirals you wish on top of the baby hat.
Berry for the HOLLY : Ch 3, and work 5 hdc into the chain. Fasten off and pull to tighten.
Fasten off and weave in ends to finish.
Holly Leaf Easy crochet Pattern for the Hat

TO create a Picot = chain 3, slst into the second chain
NOTE: you will work a double crochet (DC Picot dc ALL into the Same stitch)
Using a small crochet hook 2.5mm hook and double knit yarn
Chain 13
Row 1: Chain 13, sc in the second from the hook, hdc in next st, dc in next 8 sts, hdc in next st, 3sc in the final chain
Turn your work.
Working in the opposite side of the chain, hdc in the next st, dc in the next 8 sts, hdc in the nxt, sc in the last st, sl st into the first sc.
Row 2. Chain 1, sc in the base of ch, hdc in next st, *hdc, (dc, chain 3, slst into the second chain, dc -ALL worked in the same stitch) hdc in the next st, sc into the next st * repeat from *to * one more time,
hdc in next st, (in the same stitch work dc, picot, dc) , hdc in next st (dc, picot, dc) all worked into the same stitch (TOP of leaf), hdc in next st, (dc, picot, dc), hdc in next st, sc in next, hdc in next st (dc, picot, dc – ALL worked in the same stitch,)hdc in nxt st, sc in next st, hdc in next st, (dc, picot, dc – ALL worked in the same stitch,) hdc in nxt st, sc in next st and slst to join,
Fold the Bottom of the Holly Leaf in half and slst along both sides of the bottom of the leaf for 2 stitches, securely fasten off with the tail.
Red Berries (If you’d prefer FLAT berries follow the same instructions above)
Simple Round Button Berries
In RED
Rnd 1: ch2, and work 6 single crochet into the first chain from the hook, Slst to join and fasten off.
Rnd 2: 2sc into each st around,
Rnd 3: 2sctogether, repeat around (6sts)
Use the tail to weave in and around the last row and pull to close
Fasten off & weave in your ends. Leave a long tail on the second leaf to join the leaves together.
