Ribbed Baby Hat Crochet Pattern (FREE)

This free All Rib Baby Hat Crochet Pattern is the perfect winter hat for a baby.

This hat is finished with a single crochet round. You can finish the hat by working the LAST 2 Rounds in Front Post Double Crochet Around

With its snug yet generous fit, it’s perfect for keeping little heads cosy, warm and comfortable.

You can customize the babies cap with different color combinations and embellishments to suit any outfit or occasion.

Please note: This Baby Hat was completed just with Front Post Double Crochet around for the LAST 2 ROWS

A Note on Skill Level: This pattern is best suited for crocheters familiar with front post double crochet, back post double crochet.

Newborn Baby Hat Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

Ch=Chain
st(s) = Stitches
BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet
FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
Working in rounds joining the last stitch to the top of the round’s start a chain.

Materials and sizes for newborn baby hat

  • Hook Size: 5.0 mm
  • Yarn: Worsted,10 ply, 9 wraps per inch. (Just inder 40 grams for the newborn size. And just over 50 grams for the 0–3 months hat.
  • Hat Circumference: 13 inches
  • Head Circumference: 12–13.5 inches
  • Hat Height: 5 inches

This size is designed for the first week or two after birth, with a snug and stretchy fit for tiny newborn heads.

IF you want the front post double crochet border of the hat, then make the LAST 2 ROWS FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET AROUND

Crown: In the correct hook size for your chosen size

  • Rnd 1: Ch 3 loosely, Working into the 1st Chain you made, create 11 dc, slip to join into the 3rd chain at starting. (11dc)
  • Rnd 2:Ch 3, starting in the BASE of chain, work 2Dc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join (22)
  • Rnd 3: Ch 3, starting in the BASE of chain, *2Dc in first st, DC in next * Repeat around and slip to join into the top of the ch3. slip stitch to join (33)
  • Rnd 4: Ch 3, starting in the BASE of chain, *2Dc in first st, Dc in next 2 sts, * Repeat around and slip to join into the top of the ch3. slip stitch to join (44)
  • Rnd 5: Ch3, BPDC around the posts of the next 2sts, FPDC around the posts of the next 2 sts repeat from * to* around, slip stitch to join
  • Rnd 6 to Rnd 11 : Ch3,* BPDC in next 2st, FPDC in next 2 sts* repeat from * to * around finishing with a slip stitch to join
  • Rnd 12: sc in each st around and Fasten off.

0-3 Months Ribbed Baby Crochet Hat Pattern

Materials To crochet a 0–3 Months Size Baby Hat

  • Hook Size: 5.50mm
  • Yarn: Worsted,10 ply, 9 wraps per inch
  • Hat Circumference: 13–15 inches (33–38 cm)
  • Head Circumference: 14–15.5 inches (35.5–39.5 cm)
  • Hat Height: 6 inches

IF you want the front post double crochet border of the hat, then make the LAST 2 ROWS FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET AROUND

Starting at Crown

  • Rnd 1: Ch 3 loosely, Working into the 1st Chain you made, create 11dc, slip to join into the 3rd chain at starting. (11dc)
  • Rnd 2: Ch 3, starting in the BASE of chain, work 2Dc in each stitch around, slip stitch to join (22)
  • Rnd 3: Ch 3, starting in the BASE of chain, *2Dc in first st, DC in next * Repeat around, slip stitch to join. (44)

  • Rnd 5: Ch3, BPDC around the posts of the next 2sts, FPDC around the posts of the next 2 sts repeat from * to* around, slip stitch to join
  • Rnd 6 to Rnd 13: Ch3,* BPDC in next 2st, FPDC in next 2 sts* repeat from * to * around, slip stitch to join
  • Rnd 14: Sc in each, slst to join, fasten off

Fasten off and Weave in ALL ends securely.
