How to crochet earflaps on a beanie hat
You can use this simple pattern to ADD earflaps to any crochet hat !
I start the earflaps at the best position on the hat, you will know by the shape of the hat to lay it flat and guess the best position, most patterns will say when making earflaps.
Because we worked in the round with NO visible seam on the hat, we will make the FIRST earflap from here. Working only on the first 11 sts, and turning to work the second row of the earflaps, you will decrease 1 stitch on alternative rounds at the beginning and ends

How to find the Placement of the Earflaps
Start the FIRST EARFLAP
Chain 1
1. sc 11, ch 1 turn
2. sc2tog, 1 sc in next 7 stitches, sc2tog, ch 1 turn
3. sc across, ch 1 turn
4. sc2tog, 1 sc in next 5 stitches, sc2tog, ch 1 turn
5. sc across, ch 1 turn
6. sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 stitches, sc2tog, ch 1 turn
7. sc across, ch 1 turn
8. sc2tog, 1 sc in next 1 stitches, ch 1 turn
9. sc across, ch 1 turn
(NOTE: If you just want to ADD a chord to the bottom of the earflap DO NOT Chain the TIES, just make the Earflaps and single crochet around the hat border and earflaps)
Ties: Ch31, sc into the 2nd chain from the hook and work sc in each chain back up towards the bottom of the Earflap, sl st to join to the earflap and fasten OFF. Weave this end in securely.

How to find the position of the 2nd earflap (see image above for placement) – Holding the Hat with the right side facing you Folding the First earflap in half and, Placing a Marker, Count 5 stitches back and 5 stitches forwards from the 1 stitch marker and place markers (5 sts each side Plus the 1 st = 11 sts total) (These are your Start and Finish of the second Earflap.)
Ensure you are working in the same direction as the first earflap was made Join the Yarn in the first marker and repeat as for 1st Earfalp
but DO FASTEN OFF once you have made the chain 2nd tie and returned to the bottom of the earflap.
Crochet hat BORDER
You can choose a complementary color or continue using your main color and work Single crochet evenly around your hat and earflaps.
When you get to the bottom of the earflap SLST along the st of the TIEs. to help secure it into place and continue working up the side of the earflap
How to crochet Animal Ears for a Baby Hat (Make 2)
Rnd 1: Ch2, sc 6 in the FIRST Ch, (do not join)
Rnd 2: Sc 2 in each stitch around
(use a stitch marker to mark your first stitch, and every first stitch in each round)
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next stitch, 1 sc in next* repeat from * around
Rnd 4: Sc across
Fasten off (make 2nd ear)
HOw to Attach the Bear Ears to the HAT
following the middle stitch from the EARFL, count upwards to Rnd 5 of the Hat. SEW the Ears from HERE to the hat. and secure and weave in all ends.

Adding Chords instead of ties:
Alternative Finish if you do not want to make the TIES I usually use lengths of yarn twisted together,
fold in half so they spiral together, and presto you have lovely attached baby hat cords.
