The patterns for the preemie crochet baby hats are beginner-friendly and clearly written out for each individual size

Each size includes a smooth double crochet body with a soft single crochet brim.

You could add a round of front post double crochet(fpdc) and back post double crochet (bpdc) to add a ribbed brim but these tiny hats are designed to stretch gently and stay snug without pressure on delicate little heads.

These preemie beanie baby hats are based on the popular Crochet baby hat pattern single crochet band to finish.
