When I first made a little newborn baby hat, Easter was just around the corner, so I decided to add some extra cuteness to the baby hat and added the floppy Bunny ears.

 
This is such an easy-to-crochet baby bunny hat with ears and it will look adorable on the newborn baby. 
 

I have included the basic baby newborn and 0- 3 months sizing for you to crochet this hat, however, if you want to make it bigger and don’t know how to.  I have come across the BEST crochet hack for crocheting hats that fit EVERY TIME

So all you will need to do to make this hat floppy-eared bunny hat BIGGER all you need to do is follow the instructions using the Crochet HAT templates.

To make this hat we are following a simple Classic Basic Easy Crochet Baby  Hat Pattern.

The Bunny ears can be crocheted separately and added to child and adult-sized beanie crochet hats.

Abbreviations used – (US TERMS) 

  • Ch- Chain
  • dc- Double Crochet
  • sts- Stitches
  • slst – Slip stitch
You will also require a yarn needle for sewing.

TO crochet the Bunny Hat to fit a Newborn Baby you will need

Using a 4.00 mm crochet hook and around 50g of Aran weight yarn in the main color and a small amount of PINK yarn for the middle inner ear. 

The crown Diameter will measure approximately 3.82 inches
Hat  WIDTH will measure approximately 6 inches across side-to-side
Hat Height will measure approximately 5 inches
Baby Hat Circumference will measure approximately 12 inches

TO make the Bunny Crochet Hat to fit 0- 3 months size You will need 

use a 4.50 mm crochet hook  and Aran Weight /Worsted weight yarn and continue to work until the length/hat height is achieved

Hat Circumference will measure approximately 14 inches
The crown Diameter will measure approximately 4.45 inches
Hat Length WIDTH will measure approx 7 inches across side to side
Hat Height will measure approximately 5.5 inches  inches

Gauge: 7DC = 2 inches

NOTE:
  • To make This baby hat you do not need to know how to start with the magic circle/loop  So it’s the perfect starter hat pattern for beginners in crochet
  • Working your first stitches INTO the BASE of ch2

The Easy BabyBeanie Hat Crochet Pattern

Ch3 to start,  Working INTO the first chain.

  • Round 1: 12DC and pull to tighten  (12sts) 
  • Round 2:  Ch2, (starting in BASE of chain 2),  2DC in each stitch to the end,   join with sl st (24sts)
  • Round 3: Ch2,(starting in BASE of chain 2),  work * 1DC, 2DC in next st, *   Repeat **to end, join with sl st (36sts)
  • Round 4: Ch2, (starting in BASE of chain 2 *1DC in next 2 stitches, 2DC in next,*
    repeat to end ,join with sl stitch (48sts)
  • MEASURE HERE ACROSS THE Middle of the CIRCLE for newborns it’s 3.82 inches and to fit 0-3 months should measure 4.45’’ across

TO MAKE This crochet hat BIGGER SIZES

  • (if you need a bigger hat then
    continue to increase in established patterns until you have reached your desired size crown diameter.
  • Example: Round 5 would be: Ch2, (starting in BASE of chain 2 *1DC in next 3 stitches, 2DC in next,* repeat to end ,join with sl stitch (60 sts)
  • Round 6 would be: Ch2, (starting in BASE of chain 2 *1DC in next 4 stitches, 2DC in next,* repeat to end ,join with sl stitch (70 sts)
  • And continue until the desired crown diameter /circumference is reached)

Continue with Hat 

  • Round 4:  CH2 DC in each stitch to end join with Sl St
    Round 5 to  Round 8: 
    continue working in DC

  • Round 9 : Hdc in each stitch around.  (or until the length required is reached)
  • **for 0-3 months we want it to be 6 inches. 
  • Fasten  off weave in all ends.

    How to Crochet the  Bunny Ears for the hat. 

    Make 2 White (or chosen color of hat)

    Outside of Ears
  • Chain 26 loosely
  • Round 1: DC into the 4th stitch from the end of chain DC along to the last chain. 4 DC into the last stitch, Turning work 180 (you are going to work along the bottom edge of the chain stitches just worked!) 4 DC into the first stitch,  DC to last DC including a dc into the TOP of the Chain 3 strt
  • (TURN work HERE)
  • Round 2: Working  BACK up the ROW you have just worked.  ch2 Dc in base of ch2, DC in next 21 sts, work (2dc,dc)across next 8 stitches = 4 TIMES, Dc to Last stitch.
  • Fasten OFF

Inside Bunny Ear (pink or contrast color) (make 2)

Inside of EAR

Chain 26 loosley

Round 1: DC into the 4th stitch from the end of the chain, DC along to the last chain.Work 4DC in LAST chain space. Turn work 180
Working BACK down the Bottom of the stitches just worked.
DC in each st,  at the END ch1, Slip stitch DOWN into the post of the LAST stitch,  (heading towards the chain start ) and slip st along the beginning chain sts and fasten off at the end.
Fasten Off.
  • Sew to the outside of the ear.
  • allEars are then secured to your hat or headband by sewing tightly with yarn.
  • Finish off your hat however you wishmade
