Materials You’ll Need to crochet the Duck
- Yarnsmith Chunky or for a smaller duck Double knit (DK) yarn or similar weight
- 5.00 mm crochet hook or size to suit yarn you are using
- Toy stuffing
- Yarn /tapestry needle
- Safety eyes (or black yarn for embroidery) – Your positioning of EYES will depend on whether your are crocheting the FRONT facing Head of the Crochet Duck or the more traditional crochet rubber duck
- Stitch marker (optional, but helpful)

Abbreviations used in US TERMS
- Chain – (ch)
- Single crochet – (sc)
- Increase – 2sc in one stitch (inc)
- Decrease- 2sctog (dec)
- Slip stitch – (sl st)
Finished Size of sitting Duck
Height = 7inches
Width 3.5 inches
Circumference around body = 11 inches
YARN I USED: Yarnsmiths chunky (You can use ANY yarn to make these, but finished size will change
NOTE: The body is stuffed firmly into shape, and to prevent the duck from falling forward, lightly stuff the head into shape. And then stuff the body firmly concentrating on the Butt so the weight distribution helps it sit.
How to crochet a DUCK FREE Pattern
Rnd 1: ch2, and work 8sc into the first chain (8)
Rnd 2: * 2sc in next st,* repeat around (16)
Rnd 3: *2sc in next st, sc in next st,* repeat around (24)
Rnd 4: *2sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts,* repeat around (32)
Rnd 5 to Rnd 9: sc in each stitch around, (32sts)
Halfway along this Row Start Stuffing firmly into body HERE
Fold work in HALF and insert hook into the 2 touching sts, work 2 HDC into this space (TAIL MADE), Chain 1, and slist back into the same space you just made the hdc sts, continue joining the 2 seams together by slip stitching along the back until 8sts remain,
(you are now going to work around these 8 sts for the HEAD.
HEAD,
Rnd 9: sc in each stitch around (8sts)
Rnd 10: 2sc in each st around (16sts)
Rnd 11: sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st (24sts)
EYES: You can either place safety eyes on Rnd 15 and 16 evenly apart (either Both eyes facing front of both to the side facing forwards.
Rnd 12 to rnd 16: sc in each stitch around,START STUFFING HEAD (lightly)
Rnd17: *sc2tog, sc in the next stitch* repeat around
Rnd 18: sc2tog, repeat around
Fasten off and weave thread through remaining sts and pull to close.
Embroider on eyes if preferred way of adding eyes, some thick ORANGE yarn for the beak spaced between the eyes. Remember Eyes to the front for the side rubber duck or spaced evenly from the middle of the FRONT of the duck
Adding the Crochet BEAK to the DUCK
We will SURFACE crochet the BEAK into place:

Taking your colour of beak yarn, slip new yarn to join onto the Post of a stitch 2 sts from EYES, work 2sc, in the next 3sts (middle of beak) slip stitch into next st (should now be 2 sts from the 2nd eye.)
Ch1 TURN, work sc in each of the single crochets of previous round, finishing with a slip stitch back into joining yarn space.

Chain2, work 6 sc into the 2nd chain from hook.(6sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12sts)
Rnd 3: *2sc in next st, sc in the next st*, REPEAT around (18sts)
Rnd 4: *2sc in next st, sc in the next 2 sts*, REPEAT around (24sts)
Rnd 5: sc in back loop Only in each stitch around (24sts)
Rnd 6, Rnd 7, Rnd 8 : sc in each stitch around (24sts)
Rnd9: work this round in the back loops only, *2sc in next st , 1sc in next st* repeat around
Rnd 10 : Through both loops *2sc in next st , 1sc in next st* repeat around around
(work 1 more row if you want if WIDER)
Fasten off an weave in ALL ENDS
