Baby Hat Crochet Pattern with Earflaps FREE Pattern 0-3 months
Yarn Used: 2 STRANDS of Stylecraft Special Double Knit /light worsterd You can BUY THIS YARN HERE or substitute YARN Stylecraft Special DK*)
(Please NOTE: I am a loose crocheter) you may need to go UP a hook size to achieve the correct measurements
Baby Hat Size: The hat diameter at the crown (flat circle diameter) using a 6.00 mm hook should measure 4 inches and if you are crocheting a baby hat to fit nearer 3 months Use a 6.50mm Hook.
The flat circle/crown diameter should measure = 4 -4.45″
Hat length Before Earflaps: 5.25” if making for nearer 3 months approx 5.75″
Finished hat circumference = 15 inches around
Crochet Hook Size – 6.00 mm hook (please note some mums do not want the ties just the Hat with earflap covers) (Just omit the chain length and when wearing baby should be supervised at ALL times )
Gauge: 10 sts= 4 inches
How to create the textured Ribbing of the Hat Front Post HALF Double Crochet stitch
When working this Front post HDC stitch you will work around the post of the previous rounds stitch POST of the previous row.

FPHDC is worked by, yarn over, inserting the hook around the front post of previous rounds post of stitch, Pull Up the loop to the height of the previous hdc stitch, (3 loops on hook) Yarn over and pulling through ALL to finish.

Ch โ chain
HDC โ Half Double Crochet
Sc โ single crochet
FPHDC – working Half double crochet around the FRONT of the post of the previous round

Crochet Baby Hat With Earflaps PATTERN STARTS HERE
Rnd 1: Magic Ring, ch3, hdc 11, pull ring tight, join to top ch of ch 2. (12)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2Hdc in each st around. slst to Join to top ch of ch 2. (24)
Rnd 3: Ch2, *2hdc, hdc in the next st* repeat around, slst to Join to top ch of ch2, (36sts)
Rnd 4: Ch 2. Work an FPHDC around the previous rounds of HDC, *HDC INTO the next stitch, and FPHDC around the next st.
Continue working these next rounds until the Hat length from the crown Before Earflaps measures 5.25” if making for 3 months 5.5″
Round 5 to Round 12 or 13 (Or until work measures 5.5″ (Whichever comes first): Ch 2, *FPHDC around previous rounds FPHDC, HDC into next st* Repeat around.
HOW to Crochet the Earflaps for the Baby Hat

Row1:ch1,1sc in same st as ch1, 1sc in next 7 sts, turn. (7)
Row2: ch1,skip first st, 1sc in nxt 6sts, turn
Row3: ch1, skip first st, 1sc in nxt 5sts, turn
Row4: ch1, skip first st, 1sc in nxt 4sts, turn
Row5: ch1, skip first st, 1sc in nxt 3sts, turn
Row6: ch1, skip first st, 1sc in nxt 2sts, turn
Row7: ch1, skip first st, 1sc in nxt st, Fasten off.
2nd Earflap
With the back of the hat facing you count 14 sts away from the first st of the earflap, (FRONT IS these 14 sts)
Rejoin yarn IN the 15 th st and rep as for the first earflap.
Do Not Fasten off
Finishing Border. And adding the Crochet Braids to the earflaps
***Make sure you are working with the Right Side towards you, and continue working sc up and down the sides of the earflaps. Back loops single crochet along the front and back stitches until you reach the LAST stitch of the earflap
BORDER: STARTING AT THE BOTTOM OF EARFLAP JUST FINISHED Make *SC in LAST bottom stitch of earflap. chain 25, slip stitch back up the chain just made, and Sc back into the last stitch of earflap, continue working into BACK LOOP SC* to next earflap and repeat from * to * Bl sc to first st to join
Fasten off and weave in all ends
Create a Pom pom and tie it securely.
