What you will need TO crochet a newborn Hat

  •  25grams of Double Knit yarn for a Newborn
  •  I used a 4.00mm hook (HOWEVER, you may need to go UP a size to achieve the SAME tension as I am an Extremely loose crocheter.
  • Measuring tape
  • Yarn needle

Gauge – 9 Dc  stitches = 2 inches across

SIZE: Hat for a Newborn

  • Hat / Head Circumference will be 13 inches
  • Crown Diameter = 4 inches
  • Hat /Height Length = 5.5 inches

Abbreviations – The pattern instructions are written in US terms

  • Dc – Double Crochet Dc = Double Crochet
  • FPDc = Front post-Doube Crochet,

FpDc – Front Post Double Crochet – (Yarn OVER, insert your hook around the BACK  of the previous rounds Double crochet Post, and continue to finish the double crochet stitch)

NOTES: Starting Chain will NOT count as a stitch, But you will Work the FIRST stitches of round INTO the BASE of the Chain.

 You will Slip to join into the Starting chain to join rounds

Chain 3 to start

Round 1: work 13 Double Crochet (Dc)stitches INTO the FIRST chain from the hook, slip to join,(13sts)

Round 2: Ch2, 2Dc in each stitch around, slip to join, (26sts)

Round 3:  Ch2, (Dc, 2Dcin next st) Repeat ( ) Around, slip to join (39sts)

Round 4: Ch2, (Dc in next 2sts ,  2Dc in nxt ) Repeat ( ) Around, slip to join ( 52sts)

Round 5 to Round 8: 

Ch2, Dc in each stitch around, slip to join, ch2. (52sts)

Round 9 To Round 13: Ch2, *FPDc in the next stitch, Double Crochet in the next st* Repeat from * to* around, Slip to join

Simple Crochet Bow to Finish off the Baby Hat

Chain 5: Work 5 triple crochet into the 1st chain you made.

Chain 4: sl st into the first ch, Chain 6, skip slip stitch back along the chain

Chain 6: skip 1st ch, and slip stitch back along the chain, Chain 4,

work 5 triple crochet, into the middle, ch4 sl stitch to finish.
