What do you need to crochet a Baby Hat

Materials Needed:
Yarn: 30g of DK (light worsted weight) yarn per hat
Hook: 3.5mm (adjust if needed for gauge)
Scissors & Tapestry Needle: For finishing touches
Measuring Tape: To ensure correct sizing

Construction of a crochet baby bonnet

Step-by-Step Guide
The simple construction, using simple steps makes these classic design baby bonnets a joy to crochet and easy to customize.
Start with a magic ring and work X amount into it. Join the round with a slip stitch. This forms the beginning of the back of the bonnet (usually described as crown diameter in measurements for the bonnet).
2. Increase the Crown Size
Continue working in the round, increasing evenly in each round to form a flat circle. Repeat this increase method until the crown reaches the right size for the baby’s head.

3. Work the Sides
Once the crown is complete, begin working even rounds without increases to build the depth of the bonnet. This section will curve gently around the baby’s head.
4. Shape the Back
Switch to working in rows instead of rounds. Decrease a few stitches at the beginning and end of each row to taper the back of the bonnet.
This helps shape the bonnet to fit snugly.
5. Add the Ties /straps
Attach yarn to one lower corner of the bonnet and chain around 30–40 stitches to create a tie. Repeat on the other side. These ties will allow the bonnet to be secured under the chin.
6. Finish Up
Fasten off your yarn, weave in all ends neatly using a tapestry needle, and block the bonnet gently to shape if needed.

How to Add Ruffles to a Baby Bonnet

TO Add Ruffles Ribbons and Embellishments to your Bonnet

Starting at the front of the bonnet (the part that frames the face).
place makers along the top of the bonnet where you want the ruffles to be. You’re going to work surface crochet by working into the already-made stitches of the bonnet
Simply attach your yarn to the bottom of the neck opening on one side, and chain to start
How to Crochet the Rufflee:
For a frilly fluted ruffle, Crochet 2 or 3 double crochets into each stitch across the row, and naturally creates the ruffled effect.
(**For a fuller ruffle, work 3 dc into each stitch. For a gentler wave, try 2 dc per stitch.
Fasten off and weave in all ends. You’ll have a soft, fluttery ruffle that adds a vintage touch to your bonnet.
Optional: Try using a contrasting color for the ruffle to make it stand out, or keep the same yarn shade for a classic look.
You can also add ribbons and Ostrich feather around the front of the bonnets. – View TO buy HERE* Please be extra careful when securing these to the bonnets.
