How to Crochet a Knit look Stitch
Along with the basic crochet stitches you must have an understanding the Half Double Crochet (HDC) Variation which we use in this hat pattern.
The Half Double Crochet stitch worked into the 3rd loop, which we’ll refer to as HDC-3rd loop.
This technique creates a knit-like ribbed texture on both sides of your work.

You should be familiar with the basic Half Double Crochet (HDC) stitch. however we are going to work into the Diagonal 3rd hidden loop of the HDC st
- What is working into the 3rd Loop: This involves working into the “3rd loop” of the HDC.
- This loop is a diagonal strand located at the front of your work. (often called the camel stitch)
- Identifying the 3rd Loop: While it may seem daunting at first, identifying this loop becomes easy with practice. Always ensure the diagonal stitch is facing you.

- Ideal crochet stitch for Brims: The consistent texture on both sides makes it perfect for hat brims and other projects where a reversible knit-like look is desired.

The Ridged baby hat is crocheted in ROWS, side to side, which means there is a lot more stretch in the hat, than some of the hats crocheted in the round.
Yes you can crochet the hat in any size
You will need the HEIGHT measurement (With turnup added) will be your starting chain length.
HAT Circumference measurement is how many ROWS you need to crochet until the measurement is reached.
YOu can use this handy size chart below for sizes These are the sizes I use for donating to hospitals.
Using the Size chart above you will make the STARTING chain the LENGTH of the HAT
If you want to size up the baby hat, for example, 0-3 months = then chain a length of 8.75 inches
3-6 months, then chain a length of 9 inches to start!
If you want to size down to preemie size, you would chain 5.5 inches to START the baby hat
NOTES: I am an extremely loose crocheter you may need to go up a hook size or adjust your tension and stitch count to reach desired measurements
