Before You Start to Crochet The Booties PLEASE READ
Before making these crochet baby booties, you should already know how to:
- work half double crochet stitches
- crochet in rounds
- work front post stitches
- work back post stitches
- crochet multiple stitches together
- And you will need a separate yarn to work the toe (I usually use the inside pull from the center of the ball I am working with)
The ribbed cuff uses alternating front and back post half double crochet stitches to create a stretchy finish.
The toe section is shaped using a large partial double crochet decrease worked across 16 stitches.
If this is your first time working this technique, read the toe instructions fully before starting.

Special Toe Decrease Instructions –
Watch the Video Tutorial for the Toe area here
The toe area is created by working 16 partial double crochet stitches together to shape the front of the booties.
You will work each stitch only partially completed, leaving the final loop of every stitch on the hook until the end.
How to Work the Partial Double Crochet Decrease
For each stitch:
- Yarn over
- Insert hook into next stitch
- Yarn over and pull up a loop
- Yarn over and pull through 2 loops only
- Stop here and leave remaining loop on hook
Repeat this process across all required stitches.
Once all partial stitches have been worked:
- Yarn over
- Pull through all loops on hook in one motion
This completes the toe shaping decrease.

Helpful Tip
- The toe section can feel slightly fiddly at first because many loops remain on the hook at once.
- Try keeping your tension relaxed while pulling through all loops to make the decrease easier to complete neatly.

If you’re pairing them with a baby hat, I’ve got two great options:
- Try this Baby Hat with Earflaps Crochet Pattern – it’s cozy and snug.
- Or, for something even faster, the Easy Ribbed Baby Hat works up super quickly and looks great with the booties.
Whenever I need a matching set, especially if a new mom requests both a hat and booties, these are the ones I reach for every time.
How big should crochet baby booties be?
Newborn Booties Sole should measure Approximately 3.5 inches
0-3 months Booties soles should measure approximately 4 inches
I find these little crocheted booties have great stretch in them to help easily pop the booties onto the little one’s feet, especially when they are wearing the all-in-one suits that have feet on them.
