Can you use any yarn to crochet this baby hat?
YES just ensure you have a measuring tape and work the pattern to the measurements provided.
I was given yarn from a customer to make a newborn baby hat, (Main photo) however she gave me a double-knit yarn with a fluffy type of yarn and wanted this hat made in it!
I adjusted the Hook size to 5.00mm to reach the desired measurements! following the 0-3 months size and the wee crochet bear hat pattern turned out super cute made in this fluffy yarn!
NOT the easiest yarn to work with, but the result is an adorable baby bear hat.

How to Crochet the BEAR Ears (Make 2)
FOR LARGE FLAT ears (GREY BABY HAT as shown worn by baby)
Round 1: Ch 3, 12 HDC in 3rd ch from hook. Sl st to the top of ch 3 to join. (12)
Round 2: Ch 2, HDC in the same stitch as Ch 2, 2 HDC in the next stitch and in each stitch around. (24)
Round 3: Ch 2, HDC in the same stitch as ch 2, 1 HDC in next stitch, 2 HDC in next stitch, 1 HDC in following stitch repeat from * to * around and join with a sl st to top of ch 2. (36)
Fold the circle in half with RS showing
Join yarn with a slip st through both sides and continue working along the outer side of the half-circle to close. Sl st and fasten off when you reach the corner of the ear leaving a long enough tail to sew ear to hat.
Position ears equally apart at the sides of the hat and sew to secure
