Beginner-Friendly Crochet Rose, Beautiful Every Time
If you’re wondering how to crochet a rose flower, and think it is too advanced! Think again. this is hands-down the easiest and fastest method to crochet a simple rose.
The stitches may be simple — but the result is stunning.

A full, sculpted easy crochet rose that looks anything but basic.
And now, with three included size options (small, medium, and large), you can create layered bouquets or stand-alone statement pieces all from one pattern.

This is the perfect way to crochet a rose quickly, perfect for crochet hats, headbands, for a rose garlands, home decor, or making lots of roses and turning them into a forever rose bouquet .
Materials Needed to Crochet a Rose
- Yarn weight: DK yarn (any color you like). These use small bits of yarn, so several from 25grams.
NOTE: Yarn Tips:
For crochet roses, I like to use a DK yarn and find it works best to create delicate, defined petals.
Cotton yarn is ideal for a crisp look that holds shape well, while acrylic offers more flexibility and softness.
Avoid bulky yarns—they can make the rose look heavy and lose detail. Using leftover yarn scraps is perfect for small projects like these, so no need to buy new skeins if you don’t want to.
- Crochet hook: 3.5 mm (E/4) or size recommended for your yarn
- Scissors
- Yarn needle (for weaving in ends and shaping the rose)
- Stitch markers (optional, but helpful)
Abbreviations Used
- sc = single crochet stitches
- sk = skip
- dc = double crochet stitches
- trc = treble crochet stitches
- (dc, ch 2, dc) = V stitch (all worked into the specified stitch)
- ch-space = Chain space (space previously made with a ch2)

Large Crochet Rose
- Step 1: Make the foundation chain, Ch58
Row 1 (Wrong Side):
Dc into the 7th ch from hook (5 skipped chs count as first dc plus ch 2, V stitch), *ch 2, skip next 2 chs, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch; repeat from * across, making the last V stitch in the LAST ch, at end of Row (18 V spaces created)
- Crocheting the ROSE Petals
Please Note: for Row 2 of the crochet rose (You will be working the petals into the Vs, and sc into the stitch between the V stitches)
ROW 2: Ch 3, turn; 5 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch2 st (6 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch2 st) 5 times (9 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 st) 9 times (10Trc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 st) repeat until the end, finishing with a 10Trc in the LAST V stitch. Fasten off. leaving a 10″ length for sewing.
Weave this through the last treble crochet stitch to the bottom of your work, and this can be used to help secure the ROSE when you have rolled it up . - Continue for a 2-colour Rose
With new color, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, or alternatively work a reverse single crochet along the petals just made. (the pink rose is finished with a reverse single crochet along the petals)
- Shaping the ROSE
Pull the yarn tail through the last stitch and pull to secure.
Roll the strip onto itself in a spiral starting from the Smallest petals to the large petals, one end, shaping the petals as you go.
There is NO exact science to shaping the roses, Roll tightly it will result in a tighter rose, roll more loosely, a more open rose.
Use the long tail to sew back and forth through the base of the rose securely, holding the petals in place.
Small, Medium and Large Crochet Rose Patterns

perfect for embellishments, flower garlands I added in these smaller, easy crochet roses, as i was asked for a smaller rose to make a crochet leaf and flower garland.
With color of your choice, ch 17 (small) Ch 35 (medium) , Ch 53 (Large).
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook (first V-st made), *ch 1, skip next ch, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch (V-st made)*; repeat *to * across – 7 (16, 25) V-sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, 5 dc in ch-1 sp of first V-st (first shell made), *sc in next ch-1 sp (between
V-sts), 6 dc in ch-1 sp of next V-st (shell made); rep from * across, working last shell in the last ch-sp – 7 (16,25) shells at the end of this row.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing
Finish Off each ROSE as above. By rolling into a spiral laying the petals on top of each other, use the long tails to secure into place on the underside.
