Crochet roses are one of the most popular crochet flower patterns because they can be used in many projects. I am going to give you many ideas and projects on how you can use your crochet roses

This pattern includes three sizes of crochet roses, making it easy to create layered flowers or full crochet bouquets.

This free crochet rose pattern shows you exactly how to make one step-by-step. The pattern is simple, beginner-friendly, and works up quickly with very little yarn.

Whether you are new to crochet or have been crocheting for years, this is a wonderful little project that always turns out beautifully.

How is a Crochet Rose made?

A crochet rose is a decorative flower made by crocheting a short strip of stitches and then rolling the strip to form layered petals.

This super simple technique creates a realistic 3D crochet rose that can be sewn onto crochet hats, blankets, scarves, clothing, or used in crochet bouquets.

The roses in this tutorial are made using simple double crochet stitches and chain spaces, making them suitable for beginners while still producing a beautiful finished flower.

By changing the starting chain length, you can easily create small, medium, or large crochet roses using the exact same method.

To make things even easier, I have included helpful step-by-step photos to guide you through the process so you can confidently crochet your own rose.

Rose SizeStarting ChainResult
Small RoseChain 21Compact rose, great for hats or appliques
Medium RoseChain 36Standard decorative rose
Large RoseChain 57Full rose, perfect for bouquets or statement pieces

Once you understand the pattern, you can easily experiment with longer chains to create even larger roses.

Why This Crochet Rose Pattern Works So Well

This rose pattern has remained popular for years because it is:

• beginner friendly
• quick to crochet
• made with basic stitches
• easy to customise in size
• perfect for scrap yarn

The clever part of the design is that the petal shape forms naturally as the strip curls when rolled, giving the rose its beautiful layered appearance.

How to Roll the Crochet Rose

This is the secret method that makes this the easiest rose to crochet.

After completing the crochet strip, the rose is formed by rolling the strip from one end.

  1. Begin rolling from the first petal.
  2. Keep the center tight to create the rose bud.
  3. Allow the outer large petals to sit slightly looser.
  4. Stitch through the base as you roll to secure the flower.

Once sewn in place, the petals naturally open into the classic rose shape.
