Simple Chubby Chicken Crochet Pattern FREE & NO SEW

YES! They are both also fantastic as keychains! made in lighter yarn and smaller hooks!

Can you use any size hook and yarn to crochet these Chicks?

Yes you can use any compatible yarn and hok, the larger the hook the thicker the yarn the BIGGER your chick will be, the smaller you choose the smaller it will be

Abbreviations: US TERMS

Ch- chain
St โ€“ stitch
Sc โ€“ single crochet – for this chick I am using the YARN UNDER SINGLE CROCUET METHOD Simply do not yarn over but pull yarn under your hook when you pull it through.
*To* repeat from * to* around
work 3dctog โ€“ work 3 double crochet together (decrease by 2sts)
sl st- slip stitch

What you will need to crochet the Chick

Crochet hook – 6.50 mm hook
Orange Yarn (Beak and small amount for LEGS of chick)
White Yarn (Main body HEN)
Yellow Yarn –
small amount of TAN yarn for the Chickens legs
You can use a needle if you wish to hide the ends I just use the crochet hook.
Saftey Eyes
stitch marker
Small amount of stuffing

Worked the Same for both chick or Hen

Use the correct colours using the images as guidance for each one)

Rnd 1: Ch2, make 7 Sc into the first Chain (7sts)
Rnd 2: 2Sc in each stitch, repeat * to * around (14sts)
Rnd 3: 2Sc into the next st, Sc into the next st repeat * to * around  (21sts)
Rnd 4: 2Sc into the next st, Sc into the next 2 sts, repeat * to * around  (28sts)
Rnd 5: Sc in each stitch, repeat * to * around (28 sts)
Rnd 6: Sc in each stitch, repeat * to * around (28 sts)
Rnd 7: Sc in each stitch, repeat * to * around (28 sts)
Rnd 8: Sc in each stitch, repeat * to * around (28 sts)
Rnd 9: Sc in each stitch, repeat * to * around (28 sts)
Rnd 10: 2sctog, Sc into the next st 2sts, repeat around from * to * around,
Rnd 11: 2sctog into the next, sc into the next st, repeat around from * to * around
STUFF HERE (stuff Fully and then Shaped as per pictures)
Rnd 12: 2sctog, and fasten off and weave in ends.

Fasten off and weave tail through the remaining sts and pull to close.

BEAK (BOTH) With the EYES FRONT center, take a length of ORANGE yarn and sew a line for the beak, hide ends by pulling to the back and securing together, hide ends and cut off excess

WINGS: (BOTH)

Place Markers where you want your wings, and with the TOP of the chick facing upwards, put your hook through the stitch, and create a slip stitch to join, ch2, work 2dc in the SAME space, ch2, and slst back into the same space to finish, take the 2 ends and tie securely in a knot underneath the wing and pull threads back through to hide inside chick.

Repeat for 2nd wing

LEGS: (BOTH)

Mark exactly where you want the feet to sit (use the image for placement if you are unsure, you are going to make a BOBBLE stitch DIRECTLY into this space as part of the chubby chicken crochet pattern.

Begin by attaching your yarn to your crochet project with a slip stitch.

TO create the Surface Bobble Stitch:

  • Yarn over, insert your hook into the designated stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop.
  • Yarn over, and pull through the first two loops on your hook.
  • Repeat these steps, four to six times (or as desired), all into the same stitch. You’ll have multiple loops on your hook.
  • Yarn over, and pull through all the loops on your hook. This forms the bobble.
  • To secure the bobble, slip stitch into either the next stitch or the same stitch where you made the bobble. This anchors it in place
