Many of you have asked me for a written crochet pattern for the spider flower lacy crochet pattern stitch.

We will use simple stitches and chain spaces to create a delicate, airy lace effect, making it an ideal choice for patterns that you want to resemble intricate flower motifs in one piece instead of crocheting individual crochet flowers and joining them.

When using the lacy crochet flower stitch, this pattern becomes more elegant.

How to Crochet a Lacy Stitch

Crocheting a lacy stitch involves combining basic stitches—like chains, double crochets, and skipped stitches—to create open, airy patterns with elegant texture.
To make a lacy flower crochet stitch, you’ll typically use a repeating stitch pattern that includes chain spaces and groups of stitches (such as shells or fans) to form petal-like shapes.
Here are the basic steps to crochet a lacy stitch:

  • Choose a light yarn and appropriate hook size – A thinner yarn (like 3-ply or 4-ply cotton) with a slightly larger hook creates better drape and definition.
  • Start with a foundation chain – Many lacy patterns use a specific multiple, like 17+2, to create a repeating motif.
  • Work chain spaces and stitch groups – These create the “holes” and floral shapes that define lacework.
  • Follow the repeating pattern – Lacy crochet stitches usually repeat over two or more rows to build the design.
  • Maintain consistent tension – Even tension helps the lacework look neat and uniform.
  • The spider flower crochet stitch is a great example—it combines chain spaces and shell clusters to create a flower-like lace that’s ideal for garments, shawls, and summer accessories.

Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sk – skip
  • * to * – repeat from the first star to the last
  • sc – single crochet stitches
  • dc- double crochet stitches

NOTES: ** means you will finish at the ** in the pattern of each row. and continue to the finishing sts.

Materials

YARN – I suggest a lightweight yarn, especially for a sweater top or shawl. I used a lovely bamboo cotton mix in a light DK weight

Crochet hook – Crochet hook of your choice to correspond with chosen yarn, the bigger the hook the more lacy the piece will be.

I used a 4.00mm crochet hook for this sample
