What you will need to crochet the Leggy FROG

Pro Tips for Success

Making it for a baby? Embroider those eyes instead of using safety eyes.

Tight stitches = Use the Yarn under single crochet method for tight stitches and for no stuffing leaks.

Use a stitch marker to keep your rounds clean.

Lightly stuff the limbs to keep them floppy and poseable.

Is this Frog pattern beginner-friendly?

I  say YES it is an incredibly easy and quick crochet project, I love to crochet these when I am bored as a little fill-in, as I KNOW these sell faster than I can make them in summer and at craft fairs.

To crochet the Frog You will need some understanding of –

  • working in the round without joining
  • placing a marker at the beginning of rounds
  • working a  4 double crochet together ALL worked into the SAME space – sounds hard but it’s actually quite easy. Just work the double crochet to ONE step before finishing collecting the loops onto your hook and draw through once you have 4 half-done double crochets

US TERMS used
ch – Chain
sc – single crochet – Use the YARN under Single crochet for tight stitches

In yarn under single crochet, you:

  1. Insert your hook
  2. Yarn under (bring yarn under the hook from front to back)
  3. Pull through
  4. Yarn over and pull through both loops

4 double crochet together – work a double crochet to BEFORE the Last pull through leaving the last loop on the hook 4 TIMES, yarn over, and pull through ALL LOOPS to finish.

Overall View of the Leggy Frog Pattern

  • ๐Ÿงถ No-sew, one-piece construction โ€“ This pattern is worked top-down in a single continuous piece. No sewing, no attaching limbs later.
  • Start at the head โ€“ Begin with a simple foundation chain and work around it to form the head.
  • The Frog Bumpy eyes are built in โ€“ These are created in the second round as part of the head shaping.
  • Arms are crocheted as you go โ€“
    • Chain out for each arm.
    • Slip stitch back along the chain to form long limbs with finger-like pads.
    • Join directly back into the body โ€” no need to sew them on later.
  • Body is worked in single crochet โ€“ After the arms, continue crocheting the body in rounds.
  • Legs are added just like the arms โ€“
    • Long and floppy, perfect for that classic “leggy frog” look.
    • Great for posing, hugging, or hanging from shelves.
  • Perfect for beginners or quick makes โ€“ No separate pieces, no stress. Just fun, fast frogging!
  • Ideal for gifting, markets, or playtime โ€“ The finished frog is full of personality and charm.

FROGS EYES 4 double crochet together – work a double crochet to BEFORE the Last pull through, leaving the last loop on the hook 4 TIMES, yarn over, and pull through ALL LOOPS to finish.

Special NOTES for ARMS and Frogs LEGS:

Because you are working in the round the Seam will jump 1 st across each round so the best and easiest way to find where to make the arms and LEGS for the Frog is to fold the piece in HALF and mark both sides equally apart! And work your chains into these stitches

What you will need to crochet the Leggy FROG

  • Stuffing
  • saftey eyes
  • stitch markers
  • scissors

I have included ideas for yarn and hook sizes and how they worked out for me.

25 grms of Yarn  (your choice),

Aran weight yarn, and 6.00mm hook (the Leggy Frog measured – length of BODY = 6 inches, and 3.25 inches across)

DK weight yarn TO crochet the Leggy frog in DK weight, I would use a 4.0mm hook was making this 5.5 inches in Height 3 inches WIDE
