How to Crochet the Crazy Frog – Step-by-Step

what you will need to Crochet the Frog

  • Yarn : I used double knit yarn, a small amount of GREEN, red, black, and white
  • Crochet Hook – 3.50mm
  • scissors,

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • sc – single crochet: I used the Yarn UNDER single crochet (the first usual yarn over your hook is simply a yarn under pull through)
  • slst – slip stitch
  • ch – Chain
  • 2sc in next st – increase in next st by 1 sts
  • 2sctogether – decrease by one s titch by working 3 stitches together

HEAD/ MOUTH
Rnd 1: Ch2, work 8sc into the 1st chain from hook (8 sts)
Rnd 2: 2SC each st, (16sts)
Rnd 3: 2SC in next st, SC in next, (24 sts)
Rnd 4: 2sc in next, st, SC in next 2sts, (32sts)
Rnd 5: (for the last round, you can change to RED for FROG and ORANGE for DUCK, if you want) Sc in each st around, slst to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Leave to the side and complete the next steps eyes/tongue

Tongue: RED yarn, chain 10, sl st into the 4th chain from hook, Chain 4, slst into the same space as before, slst back down remaining sts of chain. Secure directly in the center of the frog’s mouth,

EYES
Rnd1: White: ch2 2, 6sc into the first chain from the hook,
Rnd 2: 2SC in each st around (12sts)
Change to GREEN
Rnd 3: in the back loops only, slst in each st around (12sts)
Rnd 4: sc in each st around (12sts)
Rnd 5: 2sctog, around (6sts)
IN BLACK, make a French knot or attach safety EYES

Lightly stuff and fasten off. Weave the thread around the remaining 6 stitches, pulling to close.

Assembling the eyes/ mouth, tounge: The Mouth circle is folded in HALF and the eyes sewn into place equally apart across only 1 section of round 2/rnd 3, The middle fold of mouth is sewn to the remaining sts of the body.

Body

Rnd 1: Chain 2 work 6 sc into the first chain FROM HOOK (6sts)

Rnd 2: sc in each st, around (12sts)
Rnd 3 to Rnd 8: Sc evenly around for 6 rounds (pause to stuff firmly)
Rnd 19: 2sctog, sc in next 4sts, 2sctog, sc in remaining 4 sts, (10sts) (I use this ROW to Insert hook to create the ARMS
Rnd 10: sc in each st around (10sts)
Rnd 11: 2sctog, sc in next 3sts, 2sctog, sc in remaining 3sts, (8sts)

Fold the BODY in HALF and Slip ST along the 4sts joining each side together. fasten off. SEW BODY to head,

Legs/ Arms make 4 – MARK THE POSITION YOU WANT THE ARMS AND LEGS TO BE ON THE BODY. YOU WILL INSERT A CROCHET HOOK HERE AND CHAIN DIRECTLY FROM THE BODY JOIN
LEG/ARMS: ch8, slst in 3rd ch from hook, ch3 slst in 3rd chain from hook, (CENTER), ch3,slst in 3rd ch from hook, (center), then continue to slst back down the rest of the chains to finish, slst back into the starting place and fasten off ( 1 leg made)
Repeat for the next leg, and 2 arms

SEW BODY to HEAD along the fold line and the TOP slsts of body
