I like to have a few of these sets already made as there are always new babies arriving and I have a ready made gift for them to give.

The hat starts at the crown and gently increases down to the brim for a perfect newborn fit.

The booties are just as fuss-free made in 7 rows—crocheted flat around the sole and shaped up the sides in a few quick rounds. It’s the kind of crochet baby set you can finish in one sitting, and still feel like you’ve made something special.

Whether you’re stitching a last-minute gift, prepping for a hospital bag, or donating to hospitals, this easy crochet baby hat and booties pattern checks every box. Soft, stretchy, beginner-approved—and totally timeless.

Finishing & Optional Details

Fastening Off and Finishing

  • After the final round of both hat and booties, cut yarn and pull through the last loop to secure.
  • Use a yarn needle to weave in all ends securely.
  • Lightly block if needed, especially if using natural fibers. For most baby-safe acrylics, shaping by hand is usually enough.

Optional Embellishments

Want to personalize your set? Try one of these ideas:

  • Add a wooden button or bow to the side of the hat or booties (avoid for NICU donations).
  • Embroider a little heart or baby’s initials using surface crochet or a yarn needle.
  • Change up colors – do the booties in a contrasting trim or add a stripe.

Washing & Care Instructions

Always use baby-friendly yarn that’s soft and machine washable.
Wash finished items on a gentle cycle, cold water, and tumble dry low or lay flat to dry.
Avoid harsh detergents or fabric softeners that might irritate newborn skin.
