The chicken is so easy to crochet and is an all-in-one NO SEW. The pattern is based on the emotional support NO SEW Chicken Pattern -HERE- but the stardew chicken has wings, and an inner tube for hiding eggs or chicks in!

This pattern was requested by one of my followers, and as a bonus, it had to lay baby chicks, so I had to do a little bit of digging to find out what it was.

It reminds me of Animal Crossing on the Nintendo DS.

There are step-by-step images to help you crochet the chicken at the bottom of the blog post.

TO crochet a BROWN maman chicken with hatching egg inside, the only real difference is the RED Comb at the TOP of the Chicken

What size is the chicken? I have crocheted the Blue chicken in Aran weight and a 3.50mm hook and it measured =

In blanket yarn, (I used Yarnsmiths Snug as a Bug) with a 10mm hook, using the yarn under single crochet the chicken measured =

Abbreviations used: The pattern is written in US TERMS

Special stitches used: Yarn Under sc will be used throughout The “yarn under” method for single crochet is slightly different from the normal “yarn over” method.

why is the Yarn Under the Best stitch to have no holes in your amigurumi – YARN UNDER Single Crochet – working the yarn under single crochet means your stitches will create a tighter stitch, and it helps eliminate holes from your stitches so you do not see the stuffing

The Yarn under is often called a Cross (x) single crochet.

  1. Insert your hook into the next stitch.
  2. Yarn under: Instead of wrapping the yarn over the hook from back to front, you bring the yarn under the hook from front to back.
  3. Pull up a loop: Draw the yarn through the stitch, so you have two loops on your hook.
  4. Yarn over: Wrap the yarn over the hook from back to front.
  5. Pull through both loops: Draw the yarn through both loops on the hook to complete the stitch.

slip stitch join – When asked to slip stitch along to join the sides for the body!
Insert hook into the BACK LOOP ONLY of the edge sts from right side to wrong side.
Yarn over and pull through all loops creating a slst
Continue by inserting hook into the front loop of first side and insert through the back loop only of second side, yarn over and pull through all loops.

Abbreviations Used US TERMS

ch – chain
st(s) – stitches
sc – single crochet ( Single Crochet Yarn UNDER – Read notes)
slst – slip stitch
dc – Double Crochet
trc – Triple Crochet
BLO – Back Loop

The Basic Construction of the chicken – I have tried to keep this as NO SEW as I can! If you feel you want to sew the Back body seam together for a neater finish, just break the yarn sew the sts across the back and then join yarn
you will make an INNER tube first this will be folded up into the main body of the chicken. Once the main body has been made you will then work the TAIL feathers, and once they are made connect the 2 sides by slip stitching through BOTH sides, Connecting the FRONT loop and Back Loops of each sides stitches to join (IF you do not want to create a seam here you can sew the 2 sides together)
The head is then made, it is made by a few round of single crochet, then forgetting start and finishing rounds, work 2 stitches, and a sc in the next st (until you have 8sts left) these stitches will be held together and will be slip stitched together to join. The Tops front FEATHER COMB (purple) is worked into these 4 sts.
Wings are then crocheted directly onto the sides of the chicken.

Chicken Wings Crochet Pattern

You will be working on the SURFACE (often called surface crochet) of your chicken’s body to create the wings, by working into the posts of stitches.

For BEST placement and to ensure the wings are equal. I like to use coloured yarn to mark beginning and ends of wings.
I have found the different yarns make the wings in different places so PLEASE use stitch markers and make sure you are happy with their placement first.
The wings will be worked over 7 stitches in total
Holding the chicken put hook through the first post where your marker is and slip st to join new yarn to body.
Hdc in the next space, dc in the next space, 2dc in the next st, dc in next, hdc in next, slst into the last marker stitch, TURN (working back along the top of the stitches just made)
*Chain 2, slst in next, (Picto made)* repeat from * to * until last stitch then slip st to BODY to finish

Repeat the above for the opposite wing.
