EASY Crochet Banana Pattern

A simple, no-fuss easy crochet banana with peel, designed to bring a little comfort, a lot of smiles, and maybe even a giggle or two.

The crochet banana pattern is beginner-friendly, works up quickly, and makes the perfect quirky gift or desk buddy.

You know those moments when a friend says something completely random like Can you crochet me a banana to sit on my desk at work! and your only response is, “Well… now I have to crochet an amigurumi banana !”
That’s exactly how this little banana came to be.

The banana works up quickly, uses simple stitches, and makes the perfect quirky gift, desk buddy, or just a soft little companion when life gets a bit bananas.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec / sc2tog – single crochet 2 together (decrease)
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • FLO – front loop only
  • picot – (sc, ch 2, sl st into first ch, sc in same space)
  • st(s) – stitch(es)

SPECIAL STITCH – Picot Stitch

Used in the TOP of the Peel when you turn the peel to start working back down it
Picot: (sc, ch 2, sl st into the first chain made, sc in the same space)

Top Part (Crochet Banana Body)

With cream yarn:

Round 1: 6 sc into a magic ring (6)

Round 2: Inc in each st around (12)

Round 3: Sc in each st around (12)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat around (16)

Rounds 5–12: Sc in each st around (16)

Round 13: (7 sc, inc) repeat once (18) slst and fasten off weaving in ends

Attach safety eyes now. Between Rnd 7 and Rnd 8 with 3 sts between

Banana Peel Section

Join yellow yarn in any FRONT loop
The next two rounds create the 3 banana peels.

Round 14 – Peel Foundation ROW (FLO):
Working In front loops only:
* sc in nxt 2sts, sl st in next st, Peel – ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 8 ch, sl st in next st, sc in the nxt 2sts* Repeat from * to * 2 more times (3 peels total).
Sl st to first stitch of the round to join.

Round 15 – Peel Detail:
Work into each peel from Round 14:
skip OVER to the Bottom of the chain, and start working UP the chain sts, Dc in the next 6 sts, hdc in the next 2sts, (2 hdc, picot, 2 hdc) all in the last st, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in the remaining sts of the peel.
Skip 2 sts on the base, sl st into the middle stitch between peels, sl st in next st.
Repeat from * to * for the remaining 2 peels. Take the loop and thread through to the BACK LOOPS of Rnd 14

Banana Body Continued

Round 16: In back loops only of Round 14, sc around (18)

Rounds 17–26: Sc in each st around (18)

Round 27: (Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) repeat around (12)

Round 28: Sc in each st around (12)

Round 29: Sc2tog around (6)

Round 30: Sc in each st around (6)

Finishing

  • FO, leaving a long yarn tail
  • Stuff the banana
  • Sew the opening closed
  • Weave in ends
  • Optional: Embroider a face if desired
