Crochet Sunflower Keychain Pattern FREE (Easy, Step By Step)

Sunflower Keyring Pattern Summary
You will crochet 2 inner circles which you will sew together, making the petals and leaves then adding a keychain, OR chain a length of yarn and attach to the leaves and sunflower to make a lovely sunflower Bookmark, or hanging car decoration.
Materials Needed to Crochet the Sunflower Keychain
3.50 mm crochet hook
Small amounts of Double knit Yarn (light worsted) (Brown, Green, Yellow)
Abbreviations Used (US TERMS)
sc: Single Crochet
dc: Double Crochet
picot: Picot (a small loop made by chaining 2 sts and then joining back to the base chain)
slst: Slip Stitch
TO start the sunflower Keychain
Crochet 2 Pieces the exact same, one in GREEN (BACK) one in BROWN (FRONT)
Rnd 1: ch2, and work 6sc, slst to join. (6sts)
Rnd 2: ch1, 2sc in each st around, slst to join (12sts)
Rnd 3: ch1, 2sc in next st, sc in next, slst to join (18sts)
Rnd 4: ch1, 2sc in nxt st, sc in next 2sts, slst to join (24sts)
I leave a length of yarn and use this to stuff the middle lightly when sewing the 2 sides together

Main Body of Sunflower
SEW these 2 pieces together by holding the Wrong Sides of each piece together, and sew through the loops of each side that meet (back loops of one side Front Loops of other side)

Add a little bit of stuffing to puff it out. *** If you are confident, OR you can hold the 2 pieces together and work through BOTH stitches of each color!
Crocheting the Sunflower Petals

Holding the 2 pieces you have just sewn together, With BROWN FACING YOU,
JOIN YELLOW YARN with a slip stich in Any of the stitches to start (making sure you are working through BOTH colored sides) working ALL of the following stitches within the ( ) INTO the SAME space, with a slip stitch between the petals
Rnd 5: in the nxt st (sc, dc, trc, ch2 Picot, trc, dc, sc ) slst in the next stitch repeat from * to * around (12 times) sl st to join to the first st of the Rnd

Crochet Sunflower Leaf Pattern (make 2)
Rnd1: With green, ch. 10, in the 2nd chain from the hook work Sc, in nxt st, hdc in next st, in the next st 2 dc both in same st, trc in next st, work 2 trc in the nxt st, tr in nxt , 2 dc in next st , hdc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the last stitch. Turn, hdc, 2 dc, tr, 2 tr, tr, 2 dc in same st, hdc, sc, Ch1, sl st to join to top of leaf, Sl st down the middle. Ch 6, DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Return to the Start and create a new leaf attached to the first leaf.

SEW the leaves to the BACK of the Sunflower (If you want to crochet a rearview mirror sunflower decoration, bookmark or bag charm DO NOT fasten off but
Finishing Details for your Sunflower Keychain
I usually attach my keyring holder to the Middle BACK of the sunflower so it sits facing forward.
Make a Book mark or Rearview miror, Bag Charm Sunflower
Slst into the 2 leafs to join the tips, Chain a length until you have a good length (I made 60 Chains) enough to tie around the mirror or bag, and Join with slip stitches to the BACK of the sunflowers center with the Sunflower at the opposite end .
