The beautiful Crochet Sunflower Coasters, with their own little holder basket to keep them from being lost, are BIG sellers at the craft fairs, especially in summer.
I also prefer small crochet projects, that are quick and easy to make, especially if it’s hot outside, but I still want to crochet something cute that’s quick and easy.

I was looking at the sunflower crochet wind spinner and as I places my cup down I decided there and then I needed some wonderful sunflower coasters. That I can take outside and use with the garden furniture

How to crochet the Basket for the Sunflower Coasters. (In Aran weight yarn)
Worked in rounds, start first stitches into the BASE of the chain.
Please see the picture for the placement of your hook to make your first single crochet stitch of the 2sc sts, on round 2: It is so difficult to explain but actually such and easy stitch, and since its worked in the round it makes a beautiful crochet stitch for a crochet basket.
I have included below a Video to help visually explain the stitch (this decorative crochet stitch is used on the Waterbottle holder Pattern)
I’m going to call the decorative crochet stitch a (2sc cluster) (does this stitch have a name, I always get excited thinking I have invented something.)
Then only to realize it’s been around for like 400 years!
Decorative Stitch : Put your hook between the 3rd and 4th line of the previous round 2 sc cluster, and then work the 2sc stitches into the skipped space. This kind of pushes the Last line of the single crochet stitches to the side, making it appear like a diagonal line when worked in the round.
Ch4 to start.
Rnd 1: Ch3, work 12 dc into the first ch from the hook, (12dc)
Rnd 2: ch 3, Work 2dc into each stitch around, (24)
Rnd 3: Ch3 work 2dc, dc in next st, repeat around, (36)
Rnd 4: Ch3, work 2dc, dc in next 2 sts, (48)
Rnd 5: Ch3, work 2dc, dc in next 3 sts (60)
Rnd6: Ch3, work 2dc, dc in next 4 sts (72)
Rnd 7: working in the BackLoop only: chain 1 to start and work 2sc in base of the chain, (skip 1 stitch, 2sc in next, repeat around)

Rnd 8 to Rnd 11: working your 2sc between the 3rd and 4th line of the previous rnds 2sc cluster,, then through the skipped space of previous round.
Rnd 8: Reverse single crochet around, slip to join in the first stitch, and fasten off to finish
Weaving in all ends to finish.
