Easy egg Crochet FREE Pattern

 FREE Easy easter egg crochet pattern. crochet these eggs in any colour combinations you wish! 

I have written out this little crochet egg pattern, to go with the Easter Basket I made for the children this year, as part of their easter gifts.  

The kids loved running around and finding the eggs hidden around the garden.

These crochet eggs are just the right size for little fingers and are big enough to be easily spotted by the children. 

They make a great alternative to chocolate eggs lying around in the garden with the heat!

These crocheted eggs are great ways to use up scrap yarn! You can use any yarn and compatible crochet hook.  I made some in worsted weight yarn and they turned out super cute.

What You will need to make the Crochet Egg.  

Materials

  • Small Amounts of Double knit in various colors,  cotton, or a variegated DK yarn could also be used.
  • For a realistic sized Egg (as laid by my own chickens) I used a 3.00 mm Crochet hook and DK yarn 
  • stitch marker
  • For the ones I used for the kid’s Easter hunt I used a 3.50mm Crochet Hook and DK yarn  
  • Polyester Fiberfill Stuff.
  • Yarn needle /tapestry needle

Note: 

  • Pattern is written in US terms
  • Eggs may be made plain using one color throughout or striped by changing colors every 2 or 3 rows 

Abbreviations:

Ch – Chain

sc – single crochet stitches

2sctog = Decrease, work 2 sc together, by  pulling up a loop in each of next 2 sts, yarn over hook and pull through all 3 lps on hook1),

Used for: Making subtle decreases in amigurumi and plushies where a smoother look is preferred.

How to Crochet an invisible Decreace

  1. Insert your hook into the front loop only of the next stitch.
  2. Without yarning over, insert your hook into the front loop only of the following stitch (you now have 3 loops on your hook: two front loops and the working loop).
  3. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops on your hook (the front loops of both stitches).
  4. Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops on your hook.

To start the Crochet Easter Eggs Pattern

YOu do NOT need to use a magic ring

Ch2

Rnd 1:and work 6 sc into the first chain. Do not join. Mark the end of each round. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3:  sc in each stitch around

Rnd 4: *  2 sc in next st,  Sc in next st repeat from * around. (18 sc)

Rnd 5:  sc in each stitch around (18sc) 

 Rnd 6: * Sc in each of the next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. (24 sc)

Rnd 7: 
 sc in each stitch around (24) 

 Rnd 8: * 2 sc in next sc,  Sc in each of the next 3 sc, repeat from * around. (30 sc)

Rnd 9 :- 15: sc in each stitch around  (30) 

 Start to Stuff the egg here firmly with fiberfill adding more as needed

Rnd 16: *2sctog,  Sc in each of next 3 sc,  repeat from * around (24 sc)

 Rnd 17:  *2sctog,  Sc in each of next 2 sc,  repeat from *  around. (18 sc)

Rnd 18: *2sctog,  Sc in next  sc,  repeat from *  around. (12 sc)

 Rnd 19: *2sctog* repeat around, (6sts) 

 Fasten off and use the long tail to sew the last 6 stitches together and close the ring.
