  • Sleeve length: approx. 5-6 inches

Notes:

  • Chest is the actual body measurement; the cardigan should be slightly wider for comfort and ease of movement โ€” about 1โ€“2 inches of positive ease. So measure the piece when you have created the armholes.
  • Sleeve length is measured from the underarm to the wrist.
  • Cardigan length is measured from the shoulder to the hem.

  • Just over 175g of aran yarn weight
  • 5.00mm crochet hook (US size 7 / G) I am an extremely loose crocheter so consider going UP a hook size
  • Yarn / tapestry needle

  • Gauge: Approx. 14 hdc = 4″ (10 cm)

NOTES: For the FIRST 5 ROUNDS, always start the HDC into the base of ch,

Rnd 6 onwards Always make the FIRST hdc in the next st, not in the base of chain, you will slst to join to the ch2 at start, TURN work and work the next row effectively decreasing 1 stitch per round. until arm length is achieved
Row 1- Row 5: Join to underarm (ensuring you are working in the opposite direction of the last row of sleeves at the armhole), ch2. hdc evenly around the sleeve, slst to join, TURN (25sts)
Row 5-13: Ch 2, hdc in next stitch, around, slst to join, TURN, Check arm length HERE (at Least 6 inches)

Row 14: sc in each stitch around, slst to join
Repeat for the other sleeve.

Border & Finishing your baby cardigan

  • continue working if you are Using the same yarn or , Join yarn at the lower corner of the front edge, contrasting color
  • Button holes, Use a marker to place where you want the buttonholes to be. When you reach these marker, Ch2 ,and continue Working 1 round of sc evenly around the front opening and neckline. Work 3 sc in each corner to keep edges flat with this pattern for your crochet cardigan baby.
  • I worked 1 ROW along the bottom of the cardigan.
  • Optional: Add an applique or ribbon tie for closure.
  • Weave in all ends and block lightly if needed.

Simple Crochet Baby Hat Pattern (0โ€“3 Months)

Yarn: Aran weight yarn
Hook: 5.0 mm crochet hook (or size needed to meet gauge)
Gauge: Approx. 14 hdc = 4″ (10 cm)
Finished Size: 13.5โ€“14″ circumference, 5.5″ height (fits 0โ€“3 months)

Stitches Used (US terms):

  • ch โ€“ chain
  • sl st โ€“ slip stitch
  • hdc โ€“ half double crochet
  • hdc blo โ€“ half double crochet in back loop only

Pattern Notes:

  • Hat is worked in joined rows. At the end of each round, youโ€™ll slip stitch to join and turn to work back in the opposite direction.
  • Begin with 11 hdc and increase evenly until 44 stitches are reached.
  • Once 44 stitches are reached, continue without increasing until the hat measures approx. 5.5 inches tall.
  • The brim is worked in back loops only for 1 round, followed by 2 rounds of regular hdc.

Row 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch here and throughout), work 11 hdc in second ch from hook. Sl st to first hdc to join. Turn. (11 hdc)
