Newborn Baby Crochet Bonnet Pattern, Beautiful EASY written crochet pattern to make a delightful baby bonnet with a delicate shell edging around the face.
This is a very easy basic baby bonnet crochet pattern, which creates a simple newborn crochet bonnet.

Materials Required to Crochet this Bonnet:
I used just over 25g for a newborn using King Cole Comfort DK light worsted weight yarn
Please note I am an Etremly loose crocheter extremely please go up a size if needed to reach crown diameter
HOOK: NEWBORN use a 4.00mm crochet hook )0-3 months use a 4.50 mm crochet hook
Ribbon to finish
Please Read Pattern instructions carefully before starting to crochet.
You will work in rounds first then when the pattern states continue working in ROWS back and forth.
NOTE: I am an extremely loose crocheter so please go up a hook size if you feel you need to.
Abbreviations
Ch – Chain
Basic Bonnie Baby Bonnet FREE Pattern by Lisa Auch Crochet
This size of the bonnet will fit Newborn -3 months
Gauge 7dc = 2 inches (Please adjust hook size as I am an extremely looses crocheter )
Round 1: Ch4, 14 Dc in first ch, slst join to ch3 (14 sts)
Round 2. Ch 3, working first 2dcs into the BASE of the ch3 *2Dc in each st* repeat from * to * around. slip to join (28)
Round 3. Ch 3, 2Dc in base of ch3, Dc in next stitch, *2Dc in next st, Dc in next st* . Rep( to ) around, slip to Join. (42)
Round 4: Ch3, Dc in base of ch3 and Dc in next st, 2dc in next st, *Dc in next 2 sts, 2Dc in next st* Repeat from *to* around, slip to join. (You will have increaced by 6 stitches) ch3, slip to join (56sts)
NOTE: At This round your bonnet must measure across the circle diameter
Newborn – approx 4.25 – 4.50 inches
0-3 months – approx 4.75 inches,
**you will now work BACK and forth across the sides and TOP of the bonnet, leving several stitches unworked.
ROW 5. Dc in each stitch, leaving last 6sts unworked (NECK OPENING) Ch 1, TURN (50 sts)
ROW 6. Dc in each stitch, leaving last 6sts unworked Ch 1, TURN (50sts) ROW 7: Dc in each stitch, leaving last 6sts unworked Ch 1, TURN (50sts ) (This is the ROW where you will thread the Ribbon later)
Row 8 & Row 9 & ( ONLY crochet a Row 10 for the Bigger Size): Dc in each stitch, leaving last 6sts unworked.
If you do NOT want the Crochet ties and rather just ribbon, simply just work slip stitch along the neckline evenly and the SHELL stitch border, and to finish
For creating the Ties
NECK Make sure you have the Bonnet RS facing you for these decroative ROWS
Chain 35, slipstitch back long the chain towards the Face, (I tie made) and continue working
Simple Shell Stich Border for the Bonnet.
Row 1: , ch1, skip 1 st, sc in next st of the face edge , *skp 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skp 1 st, sc in next st. Rep * across the front of the bonnet., making a single crochet, ch1 and slst to the edge to finish.
ROW 1: Working ALONG the Neckline. sl st into the posts of each row, and slst into the unworked stitches, Ch 35, (2nd tie) and , slipstitch back long the chain towards the Face
Fasten off and Weave in Ends
