These adorable mini crochet stars are quick, easy, and perfect for using up scrap yarn.
They’re a fantastic project for beginners and a great way to add a touch of handmade charm to keychains, bags, gifts, or even use as cute appliques!

This little mini crochet star pattern is a super quick and easy project, perfect for adding a touch of handmade charm to your keys, bags, or gifts. I have added in how I made the keychain below.
It’s a great pattern for beginners and a fantastic way to use up scrap yarn!
What you will need to crochet the Mini Star or star Keychain
Yarn of your choice (any size will work โ see notes below!)
- Crochet hook size appropriate for your yarn
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Fiberfill stuffing (optional, for a puffy star)
- Safety eyes (optional, if desired)
- Keychains or bag hardware (optional)
What Yarn and Hook Size
- You can use any size yarn you like for these stars! Just choose a hook that works well with your yarn.
- Remember Thicker yarn will make larger stars, and thinner yarn will make smaller ones.
What Size are the mini stars?
- For the small rainbow-colored stars, I used Hobbi cotton in Rainbow but used a 2.50 mm hook. star Measured 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches
- For the keychain, I used 2 strands of DK Yellow Held together and a 3.5mm hook
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- sc: Single Crochet
- hdc: Half Double Crochet
- slst: Slip Stitch
- * to * (repeat instructions between asterisks): Repeat the instructions within the asterisks as many times as specified.
- You do NOT need to know how to make a magic circle.
- Picot – Chain2, slip stitch into the first chain to create a point (Picot)
How To Make Small Crochet Stars – Summary
The little stars are made in 3 simple rounds, starting at the middle of star, increasing 1 round, and then working the POINTS you will ceate a Picot st, (chan 2, slst into the first chain)
Mini Star Crochet Pattern Stars HERE
Rnd 1: Ch2, work 5 sc into the first chain (5 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, (2sc in next st) 5 times, sl st to first sc to close round (10 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch1, *(hdc, dc, ch2, slip BACK into first ch, dc, hdc) sl st in next st. * repeat *to * 5 times, slst to the starting ch to finish.
KEYCHAIN: Repeat and crochet a second star; DO NOT FASTEN OFF. and follow finishing for the Star Key Chain Below
Finishing:
- Fasten off and weave in the ends using your yarn needle.

Small Star keychain or bag charm
READ through before commencing
Step 1: Holding the 2 stars, made in 2 strands of DK, WS to each other, slip
Step 2: Single crochet around, the STAR joining BOTH sides together, working a slip st into the Slip stitch, and at the point of the Stars, work sc, ch1, sc, HALF way through.
Step 3: I add the Saftey Eyes, and I usually start stuffing lightly before finishing the LAST point, you can either add the key chain at the TOP of one of the sc, ch1sc, or use your ends to attach once finished.

Tips and Variations:
- Yarn Choices: experiment with different yarn weights and colours for unique looks. Thicker yarn will create larger stars.
- Embellishments: Add a smile and cheeks as shown in the pictures. beads, sequins, or embroidery to your stars for extra sparkle.
- Project Ideas: Use these stars to decorate gifts, create garlands, embellish hats or bags, or even make a mobile for a baby’s nursery.
