What you will need to know before crocheting this Flower
We will be working AROUND the STEMS of previous rounds of Stitches.
The way we create the Petals layered effect is to work around the petal round by working the stitches of this new round around the stitches used for the previous round. It helps to FOLD the first round petals forward so you can easily work into the stems of the single crochet stitches. see pictures below
Once the second row is made, you can continue working like above by working around the stems of previous rounds stitches and create MORE sc, chain3 spaces at the back of your work and make the flower bigger.
just remember to add more crochet stitches to the petals, and if you feel you need more height to the petals replace dc with treble crochet.
For the Purple crochet flower in the main picture, I used a 4.00mm hook and Redheart Lisa Double Knit
Rnd 1: Ch2, and work 5 sc into the FIRST chain, ch1. (Do not TURN)
Rnd2: 10 sc in center of ring, sl st to top of top of ch.
Rnd3: Crochet the FIRST petal in the first sc of the previous round, (SC, 3dc, SC, skip 1 stitch)
Rnd 4: Repeat ( to ) around to create 5 petals in total, slip stitch to join into top of 1st sc. FLIP work over to work on the BACK of the flower, pull through the chain, to be able to work on the back of the flower petals
Rnd5: ch 3, skip 1 SC Of last rounds sc, and sc around the POST of the previous rounds SC ( SEE V in the image below) to secure) repeat ( around ) creating a series of 5 ch3 loops in total.
What the Back of your work looks like with the 5 loops
Rnd6: your flower over to Right side, fold over the front petal and pull through the chain to be able to work back into the loops just made. Working into the loops you created make a larger petal ALL in the first loop by working (sc, 5dc, sc) repeat ( to) in each loop around, sl st to join with first sc of first petal.
Rnd 7: If you want to continue making MORE rounds and Flower Petals, repeat Step 4 and Step 5, however, the MORE petals you add you will add more DC stitches for the petals, I sometimes change up to Treble crochet, if making 4 rounds (like the Crochet Flower on the Earwarmer Headbands as they make a perfect size.
