These can be made with any hook Any yarn you wish, and you can make an array of colors and create a beautiful butterfly Collage.

To crochet the butterfly you will need

I used a 3.50mm hook and DK for the Blue Butterfly

And a 3.50mm hook with Aran weight yarn for the Cerise-coloured butterfly

But you CAN use  Any hook and any yarn that are compatible with each other.

ABBREVIATIONS

US Terms and abbreviations used

Ch- Chain

sc – Single Crochet

Picot – (ch3, slst back into the first chain to make a picot)

NOTES: Butterfly Body (If you want this can be a separate color, however, IF you want the body/antennas the same color DO NOT fasten OFF, keep working in the same color.

ch4. Slip to join, working into the circle you have just made

Rnd 1: *(sc,ch1, dc,ch1, dc, ch 1)*, repeat around 4 TIMES, and finish the round with a slip stitch into the first sc you made to finish the rnd.

Rnd 2: *sc in first chain 1 space, In the next ch1 space WORK (3dc,2tr ch3, slip stitch back into the 3rd chain from hook [picot made],2tr, 3dc) slst in next  st, * (1 wing completed) repeat 3 more times
slip into the sc at the start of Rnd 2 to FINISH (either Chnge colour or Continue to body/ antennas)

  • PULL the ring at start tight to close the hole and fasten off securely
  • Chain a length to go around the center front and back of the butterfly. Fasten off by slip stitching through the beginning and end of the chain.
  • Use the tail left at the beginning to secure the chain just made, working up towards the top of the butterfly.
  • Tie Both ends together and cut yarn leaving a slight length for the antennas.
