Easy crochet Bunny Made from a Square

This little crochet bunny made from just a square is the easiest way to crochet an animal, perfect for beginners at crocheting, and it’s the best quick stash-buster you’ll make all year.

Soft, adorable, and ready in minutes, it’s perfect as a last-minute gift, Easter basket surprise, or just a fast fave project you’ll grab yarn for again and again

How This crochet Pattern Works

You’ll start by crocheting a square any, size you want, as long as it’s even on all sides. Usually the amount of single crochet stitches = Rows to be crocheted. Then we shape the square into a bunny by folding, stuffing, and stitching it into a cute little rabbit form

What You’ll Need

  • Yarn: enough to make a crocheted square in any worsted weight you like
  • 3.50 mm (E/4) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Fiber toy stuffing

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Make a Square
Chain 25, then work single crochet (sc) in each stitch across.
At the end of the row, chain 1, turn and keep sc back and forth until your piece forms a perfect square.
  • Prep to Shape
Leave a long tail when you finish the last row you’ll use this to form the head and ears.
  • Form the Triangle
Starting at one side, thread a yarn needle with the end and weave it across the square to create a triangle shape. Don’t cut the yarn — the loose tails will shape the head and ears.
  • Add Stuffing
Put a little fiberfill into the triangle before you tighten , that becomes the bunny’s head. Pull the yarn snug and shape it how you want.
  • Body Filling
Next, fill the rest of the bunny body with stuffing. Keep it soft or firm — your call.
  • Close the Body
Sew along the top edge of the square and secure it with a double stitch at the last stitch to prevent it from coming undone.
  • Finish the Back
Pull the yarn tight along the back to bring the sides together and close it up. Add a little pom-pom tail at the base, and you’re done!
