2. Free Patterns Are Still Copyrighted

Many LisaAuch Crochet patterns are deliberately made available free to read on our website.

Making a pattern available free of charge does not place that pattern in the public domain.

It does not mean that the pattern is:

copyright-free;
free to republish;
free to redistribute;
free to upload elsewhere;
free to place inside an app;
free to copy into another website;

LisaAuch Crochet does not claim ownership merely because an ordinary crochet stitch, technique, method, idea or concept appears within one of our patterns.

For example, ordinary crochet techniques and stitches such as single crochet, double crochet, chains, slip stitches, granny stitches or a magic ring are not claimed as our exclusive property merely because we use them.

However, this does not give another person, website, application, artificial-intelligence service or automated system permission to copy, reproduce, closely paraphrase, republish or redistribute LisaAuch Crochet’s original written instructions, photographs, graphics or other protected expression.

In particular, you may not reproduce the pattern or the pattern steps that are unique to creating the final project in a way that enables another person to obtain substantially the protected LisaAuch Crochet instructions from you instead of accessing the original pattern.

5. Selling Finished Handmade Items

Unless an individual pattern states otherwise, you may sell finished items that you have personally handmade using a LisaAuch Crochet pattern on a small-scale basis.

This can include:

craft fairs;
charity events;
local markets;
individual commissions;
small handmade businesses; and
handmade marketplace shops.

6. What You May Not Do With Our Patterns

Unless you have prior written permission from LisaAuch Crochet or applicable law expressly permits the particular use, you may not:

copy a substantial part of a pattern;
republish a pattern;
redistribute a pattern;
reproduce pattern steps unique to creating the final project;
upload a pattern to another website;
upload a pattern to an app;

reproduce the pattern in a Facebook group;
reproduce the pattern in a forum;
reproduce substantial pattern instructions in a social-media post;
distribute screenshots containing the pattern;

print our webpage and upload, scan or redistribute the printed copy;
copy our pattern into a Word document, Google document or other document for distribution;
email copies of our patterns to other people;

reproduce it in a book or magazine;

reproduce it inside another application;
translate and republish the pattern;
substantially rewrite and republish the pattern;
use AI or another tool to rewrite our pattern for republication;
remove copyright information;
claim authorship of our original pattern;
sell our written pattern as your own;
reproduce paid PDF patterns;
share paid PDF patterns;
resell paid PDF patterns; or
otherwise distribute our protected pattern content without permission or another lawful basis.

Link to the original pattern. Do not copy the pattern.

7. Reader Mode, Print View, Save as PDF and Similar Tools

Browsers, devices and third-party services may provide features including:

Reader Mode;
Reading View;
Print View;
Save as PDF;
browser printing;
screenshots;
offline reading; and
accessibility tools.

A reader may use appropriate functionality for legitimate personal use where permitted by applicable law and this Policy.

However, the availability of such functionality does not give permission to redistribute the resulting copy.

You may not use Reader Mode, Print View, Save as PDF, screenshots, browser printing or another extraction method to obtain LisaAuch Crochet content for upload or redistribution through another website, app, platform, database or service.

In particular, you may not take a Reader View, printable copy, saved PDF, screenshot or extracted version of a LisaAuch Crochet page and upload it to an app or service so that other users can consume our pattern there instead of visiting LisaAuch Crochet.

Technical ability to copy or extract content does not itself constitute permission from LisaAuch Crochet.

Crochet Apps

Uploading, importing or otherwise providing a LisaAuch Crochet webpage, Reader View, printed webpage, PDF, screenshot or extracted pattern to Loopsy, or to any comparable present or future pattern-storage, pattern-reading, pattern-importing, content-extraction or pattern-management application, for redistribution or access by others is not authorised by LisaAuch Crochet unless we have expressly provided written permission or applicable law permits the particular use.

This applies regardless of whether:

the app is free;
users pay for the app;
the app operator earns money;
the person uploading the pattern earns money;
the person uploading the pattern has bought the pattern, as this counts as redistribution

attribution is provided;

Giving LisaAuch Crochet credit or providing a link does not, by itself, authorise reproduction of our protected content.

9. Scraper Sites and Content Aggregators

Without permission or another lawful basis, these services may not:

extract substantial pattern instructions;
extract project-specific pattern steps;
reproduce our tutorials;
store copies of our articles for redistribution;
build a competing pattern database from our protected content;
create downloadable copies of our pages;
reproduce our photographs as part of a copied pattern;
remove the original surrounding Site content and present the extracted pattern elsewhere;
create substitute pages containing our protected instructions;
monetise unauthorised copies of our content;
place our protected content behind their own advertising, membership or subscription service; or
provide substantially the protected LisaAuch Crochet pattern without requiring users to access the original source.

Indexing and linking to LisaAuch Crochet is different from copying and republishing LisaAuch Crochet.

10. Search Engines, Search Results and AI Overviews

LisaAuch Crochet wants its original patterns to be discoverable through legitimate search engines and search services.

This permission is intended for discovery and referral.

11. AI Chatbots, Answer Engines and Generative AI

Providing attribution or a hyperlink does not, by itself, authorise reproduction that otherwise requires permission.

12. AI Training, Machine Learning and Text and Data Mining

Except where applicable law expressly provides otherwise, LisaAuch Crochet does not grant a general licence for its copyrighted patterns, photographs, tutorials, graphics, PDFs or other protected content to be copied or reproduced for:

commercial generative-AI training;
commercial AI model training;
commercial machine-learning datasets;
commercial text and data mining;
image-generation training datasets;
pattern-generation datasets;
model fine-tuning;
commercial retrieval databases intended to reproduce our protected content;
synthetic crochet-pattern generation systems; or
other commercial computational uses requiring reproduction of our protected works.

The fact that a crawler, model, automated agent or other system can technically access a publicly available LisaAuch Crochet webpage does not, by itself, constitute express permission from LisaAuch Crochet for uses requiring the copyright owner’s permission.

Nothing in this Policy is intended to prevent text and data analysis, research or another activity where applicable law expressly permits the particular activity without our permission.

Where a licence is required, permission should be obtained from LisaAuch Crochet before the content is used.

13. Photographs, Images, Graphics and Charts

Unless expressly stated otherwise, original photographs and images created for LisaAuch Crochet are owned by LisaAuch Crochet and/or Lisa Auch.

This may include:

tutorial photographs;
styled photographs;
pattern photographs;
collages;
graphics;
charts;
diagrams;
size guides;
infographics;
Pinterest graphics;
illustrations; and
other original visual content.

LisaAuch Crochet images are not stock photography and are not provided as a free image library.

Except under the limited sharing permission in Section 14, with our permission, or where otherwise permitted by applicable law, you may not:

download our photographs for use on your own website;
use our photographs to advertise your own products;
use our photographs in an Etsy, eBay or other marketplace listing;
upload our photographs to another pattern website;
place our photographs inside another pattern app;
remove our branding or copyright information;
remove or crop out a watermark;
add your own watermark or branding;
claim our photographs as your own;
sell our photographs;
include our photographs in another PDF or pattern;
use our photographs to represent an item made by you;
create a competing pattern page using our images;
populate another pattern database using our photographs; or
use our photographs in commercial AI/image datasets without permission or another lawful basis.

LisaAuch Crochet wants readers, legitimate bloggers, recommendation services and search services to be able to recommend our patterns and send readers to the original pattern page.

Unless an individual page states otherwise, LisaAuch Crochet therefore grants a limited, revocable, non-exclusive permission to use one LisaAuch Crochet image from a particular pattern page solely for the purpose of recommending, featuring, indexing or linking to that pattern, provided that:

no more than one image from that particular pattern is used;
the image is not materially altered;
existing branding or watermarks remain intact;
the image is not used to advertise somebody else’s finished item;

One image + a copied or substantially reproduced pattern is not.

16. Pattern Round-Ups, Blogs and Recommendation Websites

We welcome genuine editorial recommendations and links to LisaAuch Crochet.

A legitimate crochet blog, craft website, newsletter or pattern round-up may ordinarily:

state the name of the LisaAuch Crochet pattern;
write its own brief description of the pattern;
use one LisaAuch Crochet image under Section 14; and

It may not copy our pattern instructions into the round-up.

17. Video and YouTube Content

Original LisaAuch Crochet videos and video tutorials are protected content.

Where an official LisaAuch Crochet YouTube video provides legitimate embedding functionality, it may be embedded using functionality provided by YouTube where that use complies with applicable law and the relevant platform terms.

You may not, without permission or another lawful basis:

download and re-upload our videos;

edit and republish our videos as your own;
reproduce substantial protected portions of our videos;
remove attribution;
remove or bypass advertising from a copied version;
reproduce our video tutorial as your own tutorial by copying our protected instructions or presentation; or
monetise an unauthorised copy.

18. Translations

You may translate terminology privately where reasonably necessary to understand a LisaAuch Crochet pattern for your own permitted personal use.

You may not, without permission or another lawful basis:

translate and publish our pattern;
translate and upload our pattern;
distribute a translated version;
sell a translated version;
place a translated version in an app;
publish a translated version on another website; or
use an automated or AI translation service to create a version for redistribution.

Changing the language does not automatically transform our protected pattern into an independently owned pattern.

19. Rewriting, Reformatting and AI Rewriting

Changing the presentation of a protected work does not automatically make it a new independent work.

Subject to applicable copyright law, you may not avoid these restrictions merely by:

changing stitch abbreviations;
changing US/UK terminology;
changing colours;
changing yarn;
changing hook size;
changing formatting;
rearranging sentences;
closely paraphrasing our protected instructions;
using AI to rewrite our protected instructions;
changing a small number of stitch counts;
adding or removing a size; or
making other superficial alterations to copied protected content.

This does not mean LisaAuch Crochet claims ownership of ordinary crochet methods, ideas or stitches.

Whether copyright infringement has occurred in a particular situation depends upon applicable law and the facts, including whether protected expression or a substantial part of a protected work has been copied.

20. Paid PDF Patterns and Digital Products

Purchasing a LisaAuch Crochet PDF pattern or other Digital Product does not transfer copyright or ownership of that content.

The purchaser receives only the permission associated with that purchase and these Terms.

Unless otherwise expressly authorised, you may not:

email the PDF to another person;
upload the PDF to a Facebook group;
place the PDF in a shared online folder;
upload the PDF to a pattern-sharing service;
upload the PDF to a pattern app for redistribution or access by others;
upload screenshots of the PDF for redistribution;
resell the PDF;
give copies away;
print copies for distribution;
reproduce it on another website;
translate and redistribute it;
reproduce it in another document; or
otherwise make copies available to other people.

If another person wants the pattern, please direct them to the original LisaAuch Crochet product or pattern page.

You are generally welcome to provide an ordinary hyperlink to a publicly available LisaAuch Crochet page.
