Easy Adult Crochet Beanie – Free Pattern

A simple beginner-friendly crochet beanie pattern for adults. Worked in the round with a turn-up cuff and classic fit.

Instructions

  • Materials

    Yarn: Medium/DK (US Worsted) weight yarn
    Hook: 4.0 mm (G)
    Notions: Tapestry needle, scissors
    Optional: Measuring tape to check circumference
  • Abbreviations (US Terms)

    ch = chain
    dc = double crochet
    hdc = half double crochet
    sc = single crochet
    sl st = slip stitch
    RS = right side
    WS = wrong side
  • Sizing Guide

    Want larger or smaller? Stop increases earlier (smaller) or add more rounds before the cuff (bigger). Or swap hook/yarn weight — just check gauge.

  • Pattern Instructions

    1. Crown

    Ch 4
    Rnd 1: 12 dc in 4th chain from hook. Join with sl st (12 sts)
    Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in each st around. Join (24 sts)
    Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next st, 2 dc in next. Join (36 sts)
    Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next. Join (48 sts)
    Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next. Join (60 sts)
    Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next. Join (72 sts)
    Measure the diameter of the circle here (6.75 inches - adult standard) if you want to make adjustments. or need to make it BIGGER - ADULT LARGE by continuing the increasing pattern, i.e., dc, in next 5 sts, and 2dc in next st, round (80sts) - Large adult circle diameter 7.25 inches across circle. Once the circle matches your crown target, stop increasing
  • 2. Body

    Rnds 7 to Rnd 17: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join (72 sts)
    Keep going until your hat reaches ~9″ from the top (before cuff). TURN WORK and now working in the opposite direction
  • 3. Turn-Up Cuff

    Rnds 18–22: Ch 2, hdc in each st around. Join
    Weave in ends
    Fold cuff up . Weave in ends

    Color Play: Add stripes by changing yarn at the end of a full round.
  • Troubleshooting
