For this headband pattern you will be working in the round in a stitch called the ‘Camel stitch’ this is a hybrid of the half-double crochet stitch.

You will need to know how to make a HALF-DOUBLE CROCHET stitch and really it’s just the placement of your hook that’s changing. To create a Knit look stitch.

Easy Earwamer knit look headband

TO crochet the camel stitch is actually quite easy. You work INTO the 3rd hidden loop of the HDC (which can be seen as a diagonal bar of the stitch below the V of the stitches we would normally work through)  by working through this stitch it Pushes the Knit look (heart-shaped stitch) to the front of your work. Hdc in the diagonal stitch (aka Camel stitch) creates this wonderful knit-like pattern.

  • Yarn over and insert your hook in the third hidden diagonal loop.
  • Yarn over and draw up a loop.
  • Yarn over once more and then draw the yarn through all three loops on the hook.

Because we are working IN THE ROUND and not back and forth like some of my other patterns require Like the Twisted front headband) You get a more even knit-looking stitch rather than a knit 2, purl-looking stitch effect.

Size of Crochet Earwarmer headband

  • Adult Small Woman- approx 19′
  • Adult Medium – 20′-21′
  • Adult Large – 22-23”
For each size I make the Chain start 1 inch LESS than the required length (UNSTRETCHED)

On the beginning Round, you will work every stitch INTO the Back bump of the chain stitches. (just flip the chain OVER and you will see/feel the bumps I am talking about. This gives the headband a much neater finish.

The Headband also has smaller stitches at the back meaning it fits snugly to your head without the bulk.

Camel Stitch, – Half double crochet, worked through the 3rd diagonal hidden stitch of previous rounds hdc.

BL Slst Hdc – slip stitch half double crochet into the BACK loops of previous stitches.

Chain Length to Size Required (crochet the beginning chain LOOSELY or go up a size hook .)
